People who have suffered a stroke have SPECT scan patterns similar to that of a person who has experienced head trauma. On SPECT scans where we are looking for the effects of stroke, we will see large areas of deactivation. Below are examples of normal brain SPECT scans as well as SPECT scans with evidence of stroke.
