At Brainwaves
Neuroimaging Clinic we specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of mental
illnesses, head injuries and other neurologic disorders. Through the use of SPECT (single photon
emission computed tomography) we are able to “see” how the client’s brain is
functioning, or malfunctioning. This helps
us diagnose and treat.
SPECT is also a helpful
tool for patients who are resistant to a diagnosis of a mental illness. Many times, clients bring their children for
a confirmation of a previous diagnosis of ADD or ADHD. With the results of a SPECT scan, a client
with a mental illness can see that their brain is not functioning properly,
which can lead to increased compliance with diagnosis and treatment.
Most of our potential
clients ask about the scanning procedure.
With SPECT scanning, unlike MRI, clients are not placed in a tube. During a SPECT scan, the client lies on a
table and the camera revolves around their head. The process is short and painless and can
lead to a more high-functioning lifestyle.
